Pool Salt Chlorinator Questions and Answers
About 1/2 the salt in a tear drop. Most people
feel it is a lot easier on the eyes than chlorine in a pool. It
also is easier on clothes -- swimming trunks --- and hair.
Reduced Cost: The cost of chlorine
for your pool and shock treatments when the pool gets out of
balance can run between $400-$600 annually for a normal pool. In some
areas that are tropical or hotter more months of the year it
can be even more than that. Once you have put the salt in
your pool, you have a constant source of chlorine. You just
need to set the pool up with enough salt to start the
process. You will need to add a small amount of salt
one or two times a year to compensate for spillage over the
side and water loss due back flush -- but no more chlorine.
Consistent Good Water: Think of the
salt chlorinator as a cop that is constantly looking at your
chlorine level compared to using chlorine tablets and
checking it when you have time. The result with the chlorine
generator is that you have a constant check on your water
quality. This means more swim-able time and less wear on
your pool because fluctuations in your chemicals can be
tough on your pool.
No Smelly Chlorine: No more opening
up the chlorine can and being blown back by the fumes. No
more handling the stuff.
It's Eco-Friendly: You are
eliminating the use of caustic chemicals. If you go for the
standard chlorinator, you eliminate chlorine pellets
drastically reduce the need for any extreme things like
chemical shock treatments. If you use Hayward's Total
Chemical Solution both your chlorine and your acid balance
are kept in balance using salt and CO2. Its the Eco-Friendly
solution to pool chemistry maintenance.
Chlorinators are designed to match
the total gallons in your pool or spa. If you are not sure how many
gallons are in your pool use this formula.
(Length in Feet) * (Width in Feet) *
(Average Depth) *7.5
You may want to consider a larger
chlorinator than your pool size. This will allow you to run your
filter for shorter periods of time, use less electricity, and still get the total job done.
It really varies based on your pool. Generally speaking it is 200 to 400 lbs of salt.
This is a one time deal. When you have it set the Chlorine
Generator will create chlorine and keep the salt. See the next
section for an explanation of how it work. You have to have a
minimum level of about 3000 parts per million of salt in the
pool water. This will create water with about 1/2 the salt
in a tear. We do not sell the salt. Your best bet is to
check with your local pool supply to get it. Also, if you
are not sure of how to do it, you might want to have them set it
up for you.
Salt Chlorinators use small amount of
natural salt (Sodium Chloride) is dissolved into the water
(becoming about half as salty as a human teardrop). The Salt
Generator is plumbed directly into your pool line. The controller is
wired into your timer. As the water flows through your system
electrolysis separates the saline into sodium and chlorine. Chlorine
gas is generated and purifies your water. After this the
chlorine and sodium re-bond to become natural salt again. Only a
small amount of salt needs to be added once or twice a year to
replace salt lost due to splash outs or backwashing the filter.

operate in a like way.)

There are many advantages to this
approach. You eliminate the cost of chlorine for your pool. Your
pool is stays consistently in balance. Your pool is easier on your
eyes and your clothing.
Dedicated Chlorinator: This
unit chlorinates your pool based on a setting your determine. It
does not handle the acid content of your pool. Because it keeps
things in balance, your acid requirement will be less frequent but
occasionally you will need to add acid to your pool.
Total Chemistry Solution: This
is a paired system of a chlorinator and a system that test for acid
requirements. When acid is needed, it uses a CO2 source to generate
the needed additions. This is a superior green solution. It
eliminates the use of the two major toxic chemicals used in pools. This allows you to set up your pool to
automatically adjust for both components. The total chemistry
solution running through one set of equipment is currently only
available through Hayward Pool Products. |
